The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is one of the three major providers of mortgage insurance in Canada. Mortgage insurance protects the lender against payment default by the homebuyer. Most lenders require this insurance if the homebuyer has less than 20% of the purchase price as a down-payment.
